IF YOU’RE ON MY SITE, CHANCES ARE YOU’RE A CAMPUS PROGRAMMING ROCKSTAR.
You juggle a thousand-and-one details.
9am-5pm is the (rare) exception to the norm of nights-and-weekends
You have an ever-growing list of outcomes to achieve with a never-growing budget
IT’S A TOUGH JOB.
But it’s all worth it to create a life-changing campus environment and increase student engagement. Not one-dimensional “I went to a club meeting once” type of campus engagement, though. No - Your dream, like mine, is to create programming that gets your students engaged with every resource and service on your campus:
Student Organizations & Clubs
Career Services
Physical and Mental Health Resources
Service-Learning and Volunteer Opportunities
Tutoring, Mentoring, & Academic Development Resources
This all leads to deep, authentic, and holistic student development. And when that happens, it affects everything! Engaged students develop further and faster than disengaged students, and they're statistically more likely to persist until graduation.
BUT IT’S NOT QUITE THAT EASY, IS IT?
You want your campus programming to create this level of student engagement, but it’s not always easy to do. When you hire the speakers at the top of your budget, some are difficult to work with behind the scenes, or are too over-booked to have time to create customized content for your audience. Yet, when you hire speakers that help you stretch the budget, their delivery is disappointing and their impact on your students leaves you wanting.
Your student affairs job becomes a juggling act. Inevitably, you have to sacrifice one of the important balls – time, budget, or quality – to ensure that you don't have to sacrifice all three.
Sound familiar?
I'M A JUGGLER STUDENT AFFAIRS PROFESSIONAL, TOO.
Over the past 10 years as a Student Affairs Professional, with roles in Residence Life, New Student Orientation, and Career Services, I grew frustrated with the juggling act. I decided to become the speaker I wished to see in Student Affairs by delivering a great experience for students on-stage, and a great experience for event planners off-stage.
IT ALL STARTED WITH ONE CONVERSATION
I arrived at college as a decidedly disengaged first-year student with a “C’s get degrees” 4-year plan, hoping to go to class as little as possible, and sleep the rest of the time. That very same evening, one conversation with an orientation leader convinced me to ditch that plan and get involved instead. Four years later I graduated with:
Four terms as Class President on my resume,
Leadership roles in over a dozen positions in Residence Life, Orientation, Admissions, Campus Programming, the Board of Trustees, the Vice President’s office, and more.
$20,000 in my bank account that I earned through four paid internships,
Two full-ride scholarship offers to graduate school worth $116,000
Here’s the thing: I wasn’t a superhero student. I simply made the life-changing decision to get engaged on campus. I chose to trade apathy for action, and the pieces fell into place from there.
I WANT TO INSPIRE YOUR STUDENTS TO DO THE SAME
As a speaker for colleges and universities, I help detail-juggling event planners like you increase student engagement, stay within budget, and stay sane while doing it. My mission is to be the easiest speaker you've ever worked with while making you look like the programming rockstar you are.
